Texas Texas Health Freedom Coalition is working hard to keep a health freedom bill moving after a hearing in April 2009, where the bill was not yet voted out of committee. Creative strategies are now being used to keep the bill alive and moving. HB40, the Texas Complementary and Alternative Health Care Services Act, a safe harbor exemption law, which will protect Texan’s access to unlicensed natural health care practitioners such as herbalists, traditional naturopaths, and homeopaths among others. The bill details prohibited acts by a provider and requires a disclosure form to be provided to a client prior to providing services. THFC is working hard to educate legislators and the public about health freedom to garner the vote for their bill. In addition, THFC has a remarkable website with an incredibly wide variety of information about health freedom. The website includes short and informative podcasts and a host of documents providing the underpinnings for true health freedom. THFC has broad support from multiple organizations listed on their site and is certain to be successful at the legislature this session.
Sunshine Health Freedom Foundation is a key member of the Texas Steering Committee and Sunshine State Coordinator leaders are working hard to move the bill forward. State Coordinator Gwen Johnson reports that on Jan.30th Texas Health Freedom had a Health Freedom Education Day at the Capitol and on March 4th they had a Lobby Day. These events were very successful and the team is strengthening by the day. They are planning to have a breakfast for the Public Health Committee on the day of their first hearing and one for the Calendars Committee once the bill is voted out of the Public Health Committee.
